Sencha Kagoshima (bulk 1 lb)

Green tea
Carpets of bright green, perfectly groomed tea bushes grow beneath the shadow of an active volcano in Kagoshima Prefecture, one of Japan’s premiere tea growing regions. Fertile, volcanic soil and the tea maker’s meticulous steaming techniques give sencha (the traditional tea of Japan) a grassy-pine aroma, deep umami flavor and sweet, fresh finish. Japanese green teas require lower water temperature and steep times than many other tea types (we recommend 180° F for 2 minutes).

This tea is made from 100% natural ingredients.

Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan
Water Temperature: 165°F
Leaf to Water Ratio: 1 tablespoon per 16 oz
Steep Time: 2-3 minutes
General Guide:
- Add tea leaves to a teapot, fill-your-own tea bag or infuser basket.
- Use 1 to 3 teaspoons (1 tablespoon) of leaves per cup (8 oz) of water. Adjust to taste.
- Bring fresh, cold water to a rolling boil, allow it to cool slightly, then pour water over tea leaves and cover.
- Infuse (steep) leaves 2-5 minutes; 3½ minutes is a good average that works well for most tea types. Do not oversteep or tea may become bitter. If you prefer strong tea, simply use more leaves.
- Remove bag or infuser from water or strain leaves. Enjoy!
Water Quality: Tea is only as good as the water used to prepare it. Avoid distilled or unfiltered tap water, which can limit tea’s flavor. Bottled spring water or filtered tap water is ideal.
Water Temperature: Most teas taste best when prepared with water around 195˚F (just below boiling); however, some teas require a lower temperature or they may become bitter.

Different teas vary in weight and density. This specific tea contains approximately 95 tablespoons per pound.
Teas purchased in bulk quantities are packaged in a heat-sealed foil bag with a resealable zip lock. These sturdy, foil bags protect the tea's freshness and flavor.
Orders for multiple pounds of the same type of tea may be packaged together in a single foil bag. If you are ordering multiple pounds of the same tea and need them packaged in individual one-pound bags, please note this in the “Customer Comments” section during checkout. Be advised that this type of packaging may not be possible for certain discounted orders over 10 lbs of a single tea.

The Real DealHaving lived many many years in Japan, Sencha became my staple drink throughout the day. After returning to the US, I was frustrated by people selling green tea as "sencha" when it isn't. This is the real deal, at an affordable price. As sencha is my staple drink, Octavia Tea will be my staple supplier of it. Thank you.
